Create Structures in the dotCMS
This tutorial teaches you how to create structures in the dotCMS.

Structures

Structures serve to hold and organize information in fields created within dotCMS. CMS Administrators can use these Structures to specify Content Types to be displayed by Containers. These Structures break up information into various fields (Title, Subtitle, Description, Body, etc.) and then display some or all of these fields when the Content Type is associated with a page on your website.

As of the 1.6.5 version of dotCMS, there are two different Structure Types that can be created:

  • Content Structure Type - fields are comprised of the Standard Field Types, the WYSIWYG Field, and Tag and Category Fields for standard content contribution
  • Widget Structure Type - adds a special Code Field for the placement of Velocity code, and allows the CMS Administrator to create parameter fields that  content contributors will use to create their own dynamic pulls of content without knowing any Velocity or HTML code

All Containers (that allow content contribution), are formatted by a CMS Administrator to allow content contributors to utilize one Content Structure Type and the Widget Structure Type.  For more information on how Containers on HTML pages can be formatted, please see the Containers documentation.
